1. About University of South China
Situated in Hengyang, a historical and cultural city in central Hunan Province, P.R. China, the University of
South China (hereafter referred to as USC or the university) is a comprehensive public university with a history
of 62 years. The university was merged in 2000 by the former Hengyang Medical College, founded in 1958 and
administrated by Hunan Province, Central South Institute of Technology, in 1959, and the 6th Nuclear Institute,
in 1962, both administrated by the former Ministry of Nuclear Industry. The university has passed the Higher
Education Quality Certification for International Students conducted by the Ministry of Education in P.R.China.
The university’s Clinical Medicine and Chemistry disciplines have entered the top 1% of the ESI global rankings.
The university tied for 76th place among mainland Chinese universities in the Times Higher Education World
As one of the first-tier universities on the Mainland, P.R. China, USC covers academic research and
education in 9 disciplines, namely, engineering, medicine, management, sciences, economics, philosophy, law,
literature and art. USC comprises 27 colleges and schools, 6 affiliated hospitals and 11 teaching hospitals. The
university offers 68 bachelor programs, 24 master programs and 5 doctorate programs in first-level disciplines
to students from all over the world. It also offers two special training programs –＂Outstanding Engineers＂
and ＂Outstanding Doctors＂– financed by the Ministry of Education. Currently, there are more than 35000
full-time undergraduates, 5000 postgraduates and doctoral students, 600 international students pursuing their
studies on the campus.
The university provides international students with four levels of training: Foundation Program (Chinese
language learning), Undergraduate Program, Postgraduate Program and Doctoral Program, which relates to
many majors such as basic medicine, clinical medicine, nuclear science and technology, mechanical
engineering, civil engineering, software engineering, business management, international economy and trade,
and Chinese language.
The university encourages students to study hard while actively creating conditions to implement the
“tutorial system”, which helps develop their scientific research abilities in professional and innovative field. Our
international students have published many SCI papers in international journals and won many awards in
academic conferences at home and abroad. Zeng Yixin and Chen Guoqiang, the incumbent academicians of the
Chinese Academy of Sciences, once studied here.
Actively involved in global interactions since its foundation, the university has established official
cooperative relations with nearly 100 universities, organizations and enterprises at home and abroad.USC has

All programs are offered exclusively to full-time international students.
Non-degree Chinese Language Proficiency Program
The duration for the non-degree Chinese language proficiency program is at least one semester.
The duration for an undergraduate program is 4 to 5 years, for postgraduate is 3 years, for doctoral student
is 4 years.
The candidate for a degree program but without the Chinese competence required by USC is supposed to
undertake a foundation program (unless specified otherwise). The duration of foundation program for
undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral students is no more than 2 academic years.
3. About the Application
3.1 Basic Conditions
The applicant must be a non-Chinese citizen (with over 4-year citizenship and no less than 2 years
residency record in the citizenship countries), aged 18 or above (Born before June 15, 2003), with a valid
foreign passport, good health and good conduct, and is willing to abide by the laws and regulations of China and
the rules and regulations of USC.
3.2 Academic and Age Requirements
For medical and other majors taught in Chinese, applicants should achieve no less than 180 for HSK Level
